Sympathetic Restoration, Lasting Results
Every piece of antique furniture carries its own history — in its timber, its joinery, its patina and its wear. Our approach is always to preserve as much of that original character as possible, intervening only where necessary and always using period-appropriate materials and methods.
We work with private clients, estate managers, auction houses, museums and interior designers across England and Wales. Whether a single cherished heirloom or an entire country house collection, each commission receives the same meticulous attention to detail.
What We Do
Our Restoration Services
French Polishing
Traditional shellac-based French polishing and re-polishing, applied by hand using authentic pad techniques. We match existing finishes precisely, from deep mahogany to pale satinwood, restoring lustre without masking the wood's natural character.
Structural Repair & Joinery
Repair of loose joints, broken legs, split panels, damaged veneers and failing carcasses using hide glue and period-correct timber. All structural work is reversible and carried out to conservation standards.
Veneer & Marquetry
Careful lifting, re-laying and patching of loose or damaged veneers and marquetry inlays. Replacement timber is hand-selected and aged to match the original, with grain and colour matched to an exacting standard.
Reupholstery
Traditional reupholstery using period techniques — hand-tied springs, natural hair and fibre stuffings, and appropriate fabric choices. We source period-correct textiles and leathers, or work with client-supplied materials.
Gilding & Painted Finishes
Water and oil gilding on carved and gessoed frames, mirrors and furniture using genuine gold leaf. Restoration of painted and japanned finishes, including lacquerwork, polychrome decoration and distressed paint effects.
Conservation & Condition Reports
Detailed written and photographic condition surveys for insurance, probate, sale or long-term care planning. We also advise on appropriate storage, environmental conditions and preventive conservation for significant collections.
